Cycling
The
idea of cycling is to maintain possession of the puck
deep in your opponent's end of the ice while creating
player movement that results in a scoring opportunity.
When applied with discipline, this tactic can create
havok among defenders and yeild multiple chances.
The first cycle in this animation shows a scenario in
which the player with the puck along the boards
passes to the player at the top of the slot for a shot.
This play should be used when the defender in front
of the goal leaves his position to challenge along the
boards, creating an opening in the middle. The second
part of the animation shows a play in which the player
along the boards moves into the circle to shoot as the
low man screens and the high man moves down the
slot for the rebound.
